All publishing projects are subject to prior internal evaluation by the Editorial Board. If this evaluation is favorable, the author/scientific editor must send his/her anonymized manuscript for external review. If any adjustments are required prior to this assessment, they must be taken into account within two to six months, depending on the case.

Manuscript submission for scientific review

The author/scientific editor will provide the complete anonymized manuscript in a single Word or PDF file, including illustrations. Application of Casa de Velázquez standards is not necessary at this stage.

Double-blind scientific review is carried out by peers selected by the Editorial Board, on the basis of their field of research (period and theme concerned) and their status. Authors and experts remain anonymous.

On receipt of the expert reports, drawn up within a minimum period of four to six weeks, a summary is sent to the author/scientific editor who, in the event of a favorable opinion, is invited to submit his/her final manuscript, taking into account the modifications proposed by the experts and the characteristics of the publication. In the event of disagreement, he/she is asked to justify his/her position.

If the expert opinions do not converge, a third expert is called in.

In the event of unfavorable assessments, the manuscript will be rejected and the author/scientific editor will be informed.

Submission of the final dossier for publication

A complete dossier includes the text and, where applicable, illustrations, as well as :

  • 1 Excel file with the names and contact details of the scientific author(s)/editor(s) and contributor(s) (institution, e-mail address, cell phone number).
  • 1 book description
  • 1 suggested cover illustration for the CCV and ECV (reproduction authorization provided by the publisher).

This complete dossier is submitted to the Directors of Studies for assessment, to ensure that the experts' recommendations have been followed, and to the Publications Department to check that the standards have been correctly applied. If this is not the case, we will request that the manuscript be brought into line.

The order of processing of the final manuscript, revised after expert review and conforming to editorial standards, is determined by the date of receipt.
